Robot Animations 🤖

Using Maya, and a lot of patience, I storyboarded, designed, rigged and animated two 30 second animation sequences of a young robot.

The first animation is in a cartoon style, as is of a robot reassembling himself after accidentally falling apart. I decided to use a cartoon shader as I felt it added to the whimsy of the sequences, as well as being influenced by Japanese woodblock art, and old cartoons.

The second animation features the same robot (suddenly having found the third dimension) dancing to the classic 90s song ‘Groove is in the Heart’ by Deee-lite. It is in a more traditional animation style, with shaders, lighting and dramatic camera movements. For his dance moves, I spent a long time analysing the dance moves from the original music video, as well as exploring other classic 90s dance moves.
